feeling gloomy

UPDATE: treadmill + increased heart rate = endorphins = me, less gloomy

The gloom of winter is getting to me.  It’s weighing my spirit down.   Way down.
I need sunshine.

In the meantime, I’ll try to distract myself by counting down the days till U2 (Denver, 5.21.11).
110 days.  I can’t wait.

Today is a good day.  The sun is shining bright and I have an appointment to get my hair cut (yes, hair appointments make me happy).  But even better than that, I have a new nephew!

Tucker, you shine even brighter than the sun.  Can't wait to meet you.

Love, Aunt Dana

I'm not the only one at my house who likes to stare out the window and daydream.

agate love

Inspiration comes in many forms but most often I am inspired by natural objects.  Trees...oh yeah.  Feathers...yes please.  Beach stones...uh huh.

it was a dark and stormy night

ok, technically its a dark and snowy night

I’m feeling a little under the weather today and all I want to do is lay in bed with my hot water bottle and a hot chocolate and read some Bradbury or Poe.

Do you have a “dark and stormy night” kind of story?  I’d love to hear it.

squirrel day

Did you know today is Squirrel Appreciation Day?! Did you even know there was such a day? I only found out myself a few minutes ago (thanks Andy) and here I could have been celebrating squirrels all day.
Darn it.

Personally, I like squirrels. I think they’re cute. Then again, I don’t have any bird feeders in my yard. People who have bird feeders seem to have a disdain for squirrels. My dad (who is totally awesome and loves all the other animals) is one of those people who does not like squirrels. I enjoy teasing him about this from time to time. I’ve sent him random emails with pictures of squirrels, mailed him packages with squirrels on the address label, etc. Every Christmas I see a squirrel calendar for the upcoming year and think to myself, “I should buy one for dad” and snicker to myself.

Whenever my dad comes to town to visit me, he comments on the large squirrel population in my neighborhood (it usually involves words like “overrun”, “infested” and “rodents”). So recently I pointed out to him that squirrels are one of God’s creatures and God doesn’t make mistakes. He said it was on his list of questions to ask when he meets his Maker.

Hope you are having a fabulous Squirrel Appreciation Day!

dreaming of warm

Dreaming of warm sunshine, trees with leaves, and daylight that lasts til 9 p.m.

obsessed with cat power

I'm currently obsessed with the music of Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power.

And by currently, I mean I’ve been obsessed with her ever since I discovered her music this past summer.  It pains me that I didn’t know of her earlier when I could have seen her live.  Serious ouch.

Moon Pix.  Get it.  Trust me.

I don’t know what to say about the video I posted above, but the song is magical, just like Chan.

Dear Chan, if you happen to read this, please have a show somewhere.  Anywhere.

getting lost

My definition of great art is something I can stare at and get completely lost in.  This painting that my 5 year old niece created has that effect on me.  Utterly stare-worthy.
